How to Crochet Hat FREE Pattern & Video Tutorial


Here is a quick adult small size crochet hat pattern, that you can crochet from a medium 4 category yarn. Lots of my students tried this pattern already and I was so happy to see their beautiful results. CROHETHAT MEASURMENTS –

The hat fits an adult Small size – Head measurement approx. 52-53 cm Crown size approx. 17 cm Height size approx. 21 cm

CROCHET HAT MATERIALS –

– HIMALAYA EVERYDAY SUPER LUX ANTI PILLING ACRYLIC YARN – 2 skeins in different colors (1 skein = 100 g, 250 m). The dark gray hat combines dark gray #73428 with black #73430. The light gray hat combines light gray #73427 with black #73430. If you choose to crochet with 1 color only, 1 skein will be enough – a 5 mm crochet hook – I used a clover crochet hook – a tapestry needle – scissors – a pom pom – optional – I purchased them at Primark

GAUGE –

4” / 10 cm = 18 fpdc & 14 rows


ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS)

mr = magic ring ch = chain sl st = slip stitch sc = single crochet dc = double crochet fpdc = front post double crochet rnd (s) = round (s) st (s) = stitch (s) yo = yarn over

GENERAL –

1. The hat will be crocheted top down. 2. Each rnd will be joined with a sl st. 3. [   ] –  you should crochet the instructions in brackets the number of times mentioned right after them.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CROCHET HAT

Rnd 1: using the main color create a mr, ch 2 (count as a st), 11 dc into the mr, sl st to ch 2 (12 sts).

Rnd 2: ch 2 (count as a st), 1 fpdc around the ch 2 from the previous rnd,

[1 dc to next st, 1 fpdc around the same st] * 11 times,

sl st to ch 2 (24 sts).

In the photo below, the needle shows the direction you should crochet the 1st fpdc around the ch 2 from the previous rnd – you should insert the hook from right to left around the ch 2.

After crocheting the 1st fpdc around the ch 2 from the previous rnd.

After crocheting rnd 2.

Rnd 3: ch 2 (count as a st), 1 fpdc around the ch 2 from the previous rnd, [1 fpdc around next st, 1 dc to next st, 1 fpdc around the same st] * 11 times, 1 fpdc around next st, sl st to ch 2 (36 sts).

Rnd 4: ch 2 (count as a st), 1 fpdc around the ch 2 from the previous rnd, [1 fpdc around each of next 2 sts, 1 dc to next st, 1 fpdc around the same st] * 11 times, 1 fpdc round each of next 2 sts , sl st to ch 2 (48 sts).

Rnd 5: ch 2 (count as a st), 1 fpdc around the ch 2 from the previous rnd,

[1 fpdc around each of next 3 sts, 1 dc to next st, 1 fpdc around the same st] * 11 times, 1 fpdc round each of next 3 sts , sl st to ch 2 (60 sts).

Rnd 6: ch 2 (count as a st), 1 fpdc around the ch 2 from the previous rnd,

[1 fpdc around each of next 4 sts, 1 dc to next st, 1 fpdc around the same st] * 11 times, 1 fpdc round each of next 4 sts , sl st to ch 2 (72 sts).

Rnd 7: ch 2 (count as a st), 1 fpdc around the ch 2 from the previous rnd,

[1 fpdc around each of next 5 sts, 1 dc to next st, 1 fpdc around the same st] * 11 times, 1 fpdc round each of next 5 sts , sl st to ch 2 (84 sts).

After crocheting rnd 7.

Rnd 8: ch 1 (does not count as a st), 1 fpdc around the ch 2 from the previous rnd & around each of next 83 fpdc sts, sl st to the 1st fpdc in this rnd (84 sts).

Rnds 9-22: ch 1 (does not count as a st), 1 fpdc around each of the 84 fpdc sts in this rnd.

Switch colors while crocheting the last fpdc st in this rnd as follows:

yo, insert the hook from right to left behind the last post,

yo & pull a loop (3 loops on hook),

yo & pull through 2 (2 loops on hook),

yo with the new yarn color & pull through 2 loops (switching colors has been made), sl st to the 1st fpdc in this rnd (84 sts).

Rnds 23-30: ch 1 (does not count as a st), 1 fpdc around each of the 84 fpdc sts in this rnd, sl st to the 1st fpdc in this rnd (84 sts).

Rnd 31: ch 1 (does not count as a st), 1 sc to each of the 84 sts in this rnd,

cut the yarn leaving a 15 cm tail & pull it from the st.

Using a needle insert the yarn to the 1st sc in this rnd,

& back to the place where the st started its way - to the bl (84 sts).

Weave in all extra yarn.
