You are invited to crochet Noa’s bag with me. Skill Level - EASY.
I usually carry lots of stuff with me – glasses, a notebook to write my ideas, a comfortable wallet & of course, something to crochet, so I need big bags and designed this one accordingly. If you prefer your bag smaller, you can crochet it with a thin yarn and a suitable crochet hook. In this case you will have to compare your gauge to mine, so you will be able to estimate your bag size and needed materials accordingly.
In addition, I guess you will have to adjust your handles by crocheting a different number of chains. If you wish to purchase a printable PDF – click here

Materials
- 5 skeins of KATIA BIG RIBBON yarn (each skein = 200 g, 72 m, 50% cotton, 50% polyester). 3 skeins of olive # 33, 1 skein of green #21 & beige #9.
- 8 mm crochet hook. - A tapestry needle to weave in all extra yarn.

Measurements
Height (handles not included) - Approx. 42 cm (16.5”).
Width – Approx. 45 cm (17.7”) Weights approx. 820 g.

Gauge
10 cm (4“) * 10 cm (4”) = approx. 7.5 sc & 8 rows.

Abbreviations - US Terms
mr - magic ring
ch(s) – chain (s) sc – single crochet

General
1.If you are a beginner, kindly watch my basket free pattern post before crocheting this easy crochet bag. The basic information regarding crocheting the basket base and side might help you.
2.This pattern is written using US crochet terms.
3.Each rnd will start with a ch 1 that does not count as a st.
4.Each rnd will end with a sl st to the 1st st in the same rnd (a photo tutorial is available later on).
5.X sc = 1 sc to each of next X sts, for example – 8 sc = 1 sc to each of next 8 sts.
6.Inc = 2 sc to the next st.
7.We will repeat instructions in brackets [ ] the number of times written after the brackets.

8.At each rnd end, the total number of sts will be mentioned in brackets ( ).
9.When crocheting in rnds, the RS of your work will be the one where the sc sts look like a “V” shape.

Bag Base
Using color #33 create a mr – for a video tutorial click here.
Rnd 1
8 sc into the mr, sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (where the gray needle is located in photo 1). Pull the mr tail in order to minimize its hole (8 sts). Photo 1

Rnd 2
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st (where the left gray needle is located in photo 2) inc * 7, 1 sc (the last sc will be crocheted under the sl st from the previous rnd – where the right gray needle is located in photo 2), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (16 sts).
photo 2

Rnd 3
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, [1 sc, inc] * 7, 2 sc (the last sc will be crocheted under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (24 sts).

Rnd 4
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, 3 sc, [inc, 2 sc] * 7 (the last sc will be crocheted under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (32 sts). Rnd 5
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, 1 sc, [inc, 3 sc] * 7, 3 sc (the last sc will be crocheted under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (40 sts).

Rnd 6
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, [4 sc, inc] * 7, 5 sc (the last sc will be crocheted under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (48 sts).
Rnd 7
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, 2 sc, [inc, 5 sc] * 7, 4 sc (the last sc will be crocheted under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (56 sts). Rnd 8
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, [6 sc, inc] * 7, 7 sc (the last sc will be crocheted under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (64 sts).
The bag base is circled in yellow in photo 3.

Bag Side
From now on we will NOT crochet under the sl st at each rnd end, as we did while crocheting the bag base, so the sl st will be seen at each rnd as a horizontal small line. In photo 4 the gray needle is located under sl sts, so you can see the horizontal lines. If you cannot easily notice the sl sts, I recommend to pm under it, so you will not crochet there in the next rnd.
Photo 4

Rnds 9-11
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, 63 sc (DO NOT crochet under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (64 sts).
Rnd 12
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, 14 sc, inc, [15 sc, inc] * 3 (DO NOT crochet under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (68 sts).
Rnds 13-25
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, 67 sc (DO NOT crochet under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (68 ts). We will change colors while crocheting the last sc in the last rnd, following the below photo tutorial: Insert the hook to the last st and pull a loop (2 loops on hook), yo with color # 21 (photo 5)
photo 5

Pull through 2 loops (photo 6) last sc has been created while changing colors.
photo 6

DO NOT crochet under the sl st from the previous rnd, sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (photo 7) and follow the instructions below.
photo 7

Rnds 26-31
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, 67 sc, (DO NOT crochet under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (68 sts). We will change to color # 9 while crocheting the last sc in the last rnd.

Rnds 32-35
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, 67 sc (DO NOT crochet under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (68 sts).
Bag Handles
Rnd 36
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, 10 sc, ch 36 and sk 12 sts, 22 sc, ch 36 and sk 12 sts, 11 sc (DO NOT crochet under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (44 sc, 2 handles of 36 chs each)
Rnd 37
ch 1, 1 sc to the same st, 10 sc, 1 sc to each of next 36 ch (under 2 threads of yarn –
where the gray needles are located in photo 8 for an example), 22 sc, 1 sc to each of next 36 chs (under 2 threads of yarn), 11 sc (DO NOT crochet under the sl st from the previous rnd), sl st to the 1st sc in this rnd (116 sc)

Last Round
Rnd 38
This rnd will be crocheted to bl. 1 sl st to each st around. Cut the yarn, while leaving a 15 cm (5.9”) tail, and pull it from the st. Using a needle, insert the yarn under the 1st sl st in this rnd (photo 9),
photo 9

and back to the bl of the last sl st you crocheted in this rnd (photo 10) (117 sl st). You can hardly view the last st (as you can see in photo 11 in the next page). Weave in all extra yarn.
