General

1.This pattern is written using US crochet terms.

2.The egg is crocheted in 2 identical parts that will be joined while crocheting sl st.

Special Stitches 1.For a magic ring video tutorial click here.

2.For standing sts tutorial click here.

3.Extended double crochet (exdc) – yo and insert the hook to indicated st, yo and pull a loop (3 loops on hook), yo and pull through 1 loop (3 loops on hook), [yo and pull through 2] * 2 times. Excd has been created.

Creating the last loop using a needle –

Cut the yarn, leaving a 15 cm/5.9” tail, and pull the yarn from the st.

Using a needle, insert the yarn to the 2ndst of the current rnd(pic 1),

and then to the place where the st started its way (pic 2)

Create a magic ring.

Rnd 1: (color A – approx. 2.5 m/2.18 yard for 2 units)

Ch 1, 12 dc into the magic ring. Create the last loop using a needle and weave in all extra yarn (12 sts).

The view after finishing Rnd 1 This is the RS of the egg

Rnd 2: (Color B - approx. 2.5/2.73 yard for 2 units)

Start crocheting standing sc to any st except the first & last of the previous rnd.

1 additional sc to the same st, 2 sc to each of next 11 sts, create the last loop using a needle and weave in all extra yarn (24 sts).

The view after finishing Rnd 2

Rnd 3: (color C - approx. 4 m/4.37 yard for 2 units)

Start crocheting standing sc to any st except the first & last of the previous rnd.

1 additional sc to the same st, [1 sc to each of next 3 sts, 2 sc to next st] * 3 times 1 hdc to next st, 2 hdc to next st, 1 hdc to next st, 2 dc to next st, 2 exdc to next st, 3 tr to next st (this will be called the eggs edge), 2 exdc to next st, 2 dc to next st,

1 hdc to next st, 2 hdc to next st, 1 hdc to next st.

Create the last loop using a needle and weave in all extra yarn (36 sts).

The view after finishing Rnd 3

Rnd 4: (color C - approx. 4 m/4.37 yard for 2 units)

Start crocheting standing sc to the middle sc between 2 groups of 2 sc – where the needle is located in the pic below.

1 sc to each of next 4 sts, 2 sc to next st, 1 sc to each of next 10 sts, 2 sc to next st, 1 hdc to next st, 3 dc to next st (the eggs edge), 1 hdc to next st, 2 sc to next st, 1 sc to each of next 10 sts, 2 sc to next st, 1 sc to each of next 4 sts, 1 additional sc to the place where we crocheted the standing sc. Create the last loop using a needle and weave in all extra yarn (43 sts).

Rnd 5: (color C - approx. 4 m/4.37 yard for 2 units)

Insert the hook to any st except the first & last st of the previous rnd and pull a loop. Start crocheting 1 sc from the next st, where the needle is located in the pic below

Keep crocheting 1 sc to each st around till you reach the middle st of the egg’s edge (the 2nd st from the 3 sts), where you should crochet 3 sc.

Keep crocheting 1 sc to each st around till you reach the st where you pulled the 1st loop. Crochet 1 sc to that place (45 sts), pm and continue crocheting the next rnd in spiral method. At this point the egg will turn inside – it is ok.

Rnd 6: (color C - approx. 4 m/4.37 yard for 2 units)

1 sc to each st around till you reach to the middle st of the egg’s edge (the 2nd st from the 3 sts), where you should crochet 3 sc. Keep crocheting 1 sc to each st around (47 sts). Create the last loop using a needle and weave in all extra yarn

The view after finishing Rnd 6 – the egg parts turn inside

Push them so they will look as in the pic below

Joining the Egg’s Parts (color C - approx. 2 m/2.18 yard)

Place WS of one unit on top of WS of another unit and insert your hook to their middle st of the egg’s edges - the 2nd st from the 3 sts as in the pic below

Start crocheting 1 sl st around and fill the egg with Acrilan as you go.

Omit the last st that will be created using a needle. The process is similar to the one that was described in the special sts section on page 4, with slight changes as described here:

Cut the yarn, leaving a 15 cm/5.9” tail, and pull the yarn from the st.

Using a needle, insert the yarn under the 1st sl st of the current rnd, and then to the place where the st started its way. For a video tutorial that demonstrate the technique click here.

Weave in all extra yarn.
