General

  1. The written instructions are followed by video tutorials for the parts I thought you might need help with. I recommend viewing all the tutorials before crocheting the doll.

  2. In every part you crochet in a round using the spiral method, you should place a marker (pm) at each rnd end. I recommend to use a different color of yarn than the color that is being crocheted as markers. I pull the marker with me while I crochet each rnd and keep all the markers in their place till the doll is completed. You can view this process in the "Crocheting the head of the doll video tutorial".

  3. Make sure that the RS of each crocheted part is facing you - as shown in the "Crocheting the head of the doll video tutorial".

  4. X sc = crochet 1 sc to each of next X sts. For example, => 6 sc = crochet 1 sc to each of next 6 sts.

  5. Inc = crochet 2 sc to the next st.

  6. [ ] - you should crochet the instructions in brackets, the number of times mentioned right after them. For example, => [inc, 3 sc] * 5 = crochet 5 times the following instructions: 2 sc sts to next st, 1 sc to each of next 3 sts

  7. ( ) = you should crochet the instructions in brackets, to the st mentioned right after them. For example, => (1 sc, 1 dc) to next st => crochet the following 2 sts to the next st => 1 sc & 1 dc.

  8. In each rnd end, the sts number will be mentioned in brackets ( ).

  9. After you finish crocheting each part of the dinosaur, weave in all extra yarn, unless otherwise is stated.

  10. Some parts of the dinosaur will be sewed with jeans plus yarn, and some parts with a double sewing thread – instructions will be written later.

Cut the yarn leaving a 10 cm/3.9” tail & pull it through the st. Using a needle insert the yarn to the 2nd sc in the last rnd, and to the bl of the last sc in the last rnd.

Rnd 9 In this rnd you will switch colors - min 12:54 in the video tutorial. Insert the hook to the last st in the last rnd and pull a loop using beige yarn. Crochet 12 sc starting the next st. The last sc will be crocheted to the st where you pull the loop (12 sc). Rnds 10-16 12 sc (12 sts).

At the end of rnd 16 create the last loop with a needle - min 11:09 in the video tutorial. Cut the yarn leaving a 10 cm/3.9” tail & pull it through the st. Using a needle insert the yarn to the 2nd sc in the last rnd, and to the bl of the last sc in the last rnd. Create the 2nd leg, but when reaching to the end of rnd 16, DO NOT cut the yarn. From this point you will join the 2 legs & crochet the body and neck as one part.

Body & neck - stuff as you go

It is recommended to watch this video tutorial before start crocheting the body & neck. Rnd 1 In this rnd you will join the legs and start crocheting the body.

ch 4, join the 2nd leg to the 1st leg by crocheting 1 sc to its 1st sc (under the last loop you created on it in the last rnd of the leg), 11 sc, ch 4, join back to the 2nd leg by crocheting 12 sc – starting the 1st st of its last rnd (32 sts – 24 sc, 8 chs – we will sew the hole that the chs created later).

Do not forget to pm after you finish crocheting each rnd, so you will be able to count the body rnds.

Rnd 2 4 sc to the ch 4 sp, 5 sc, inc , inc 5 sc, 4 sc to the ch 4 sp, 5 sc, inc, inc, 5 sc (36 sts). Rnd 3 36 sc (36 sts). Rnd 4 10 sc, inc, inc, 16 sc, inc, inc, 6 sc (40 sts).

Rnd 5 40 sc (40 sts). Rnd 6 [4 sc, inc] * 8 (48 sts).

Rnds 7-12 48 sc (48 sts).

Rnd 13 [inv dec, 4 sc] * 8 (40 sts). Rnd 14 40 sc (40 sts). Rnd 15 [3 sc, inv dec] * 8 (32 sts). Rnds 16-17 32 sc (32 sts).

Rnd 18 [2 sc,inv dec] * 8 (24 sts).

Rnd 19 24 sc (24 sts).

At this point you should stop crocheting and sew the little hole between the legs with white

yarn and a needle (photos 8 & 9). This will enable you to stuff the doll as you go.

Rnd 20 [inv dec, 6 sc] * 3, (21 sts). Rnds 21- 22 21 sc (21 sts).

Rnd 23 [inv dec, 5 sc] * 3, (18 sts).

Rnds 24-32 18 sc (18 sts).

At the end of rnd 32 create the last loop with a needle - min 11:09 in the video tutorial. Cut the yarn leaving a 10 cm/3.9” tail & pull it through the st. Using a needle insert the yarn to the 2nd sc in the last rnd, and to the bl of the last sc in the last rnd.

Body cover

Using beige yarn create a magic ring.

Rnd 1 9 sc into the ring (9 sts). Rnd 2 inc * 9 (18 sts). Cut the yarn, leaving a 20 cm/7.8” tail and pull it from the st and DO NOT weave it in. Use this yarn to sew each 2 sts of the body cover & neck as shown in the video tutorial here.

Joining the neck to the head

You can decide which side of the doll will consider to be its front or back. While the front side of the doll and head are facing you, sew them with the beige yarn & a needle: In the neck you will sew around the last rnd under the sc sts - where the orang yarn is placed under 5 sts for an example in photo 10.

In the head you will sew around a similar rnd area, around rnds 12 – 18.

Tip – In order for the head not to get twisted, start sewing from the middle of the front neck & head to your left - 4 sts, and then complete 4 sts to the right. Only then sew around.

At the end of rnd 6 create the last loop with a needle - min 11:09 in the video tutorial. Cut the yarn leaving a 10 cm/3.9” tail & pull it through the st. Using a needle insert the yarn to the 2nd sc in the last rnd, and to the bl of the last sc in the last rnd.

Put the triangles aside. We will join them later in one row with the tail.

Tail

Using green yarn create a magic ring.

Rnd 1 6 sc into the ring (6 sts). Rnd 2 6 sc (6 sts). Make sure that the RS of your work, where the sc sts look like a V shape, is the external side. Rnd 3 [inc, 2 sc] * 2 (8 sts).

Rnds 4-5 8 sc (8 sts).

Rnd 6 [inc, 3 sc] * 2 (10 sts).

Rnds 7-8 10 sc (10 sts).

Rnd 9 [inc, 4 sc] * 2 (12 sts).

Rnds 10-11 12 sc (12 sts).

Rnd 12 [inc, 5 sc] * 2 (14 sts).

Rnds 13-14 14 sc (14 sts).

Rnd 15 [inc, 6 sc] * 2 (16 sts).

Rnds 16-17 16 sc (16 sts).

Rnd 18 [inc, 7 sc] * 2 (18 sts).

Rnds 19-20 18 sc (18 sts). DO NOT cut the yarn.

Joining the tail & back triangles

The tail & back triangles will be joined by crocheting sc sts along them in one long row. A video demonstration is available here.

Fold the tail in half – the 2 increases should be at the sides (photo 16).

crochet dinosaur pattern by malkishuart 17

Enlarge the last loop of the tail & take the crochet hook out of it. Insert the crochet hook to the 1st sc of the last rnd & pull the enlarged loop through it. ch 1 & crochet 9 sc through each 2 sts of the last rnd –

1 & 18 | 2 & 17 | 3 & 16 | 4 & 15 | 5 & 14 | 6 & 13 | 7 & 12 | 8 & 11 | 9 & 10.

Now, we will move to one of the triangles and join them in the same method: Fold each triangle in half (the inc should be on the sides), ch 1 & crochet 8 sc through each 2 sts of the last rnd - 1 & 16 | 2 & 15 | 3 & 14 | 4 & 13 | 5 & 12 | 6 & 11 | 7 & 10 | 8 & 9.

We will continue joining all other 6 triangles in the same way (photo 17)

crochet dinosaur pattern by malkishuart 18

When you finish joining all triangles ch 1, cut the yarn leaving a 10 cm/3.9” tail, pull it through the st & weave it in. We will sew it later.

Arm triangles (* 6 – 2 of each size)

Using orange or yellow yarn crochet 2 units of each size.

Big triangle (*2)

Create a magic ring.

Rnd 1 6 sc into the ring (6 sts). Rnd 2 [inc, 2 sc] * 2 (8 sts).

Rnd 3 [inc, 3 sc] * 2 (10 sts).

Rnd 4 [inc, 4 sc] * 2 (12 sts).

Rnd 5 [inc, 5 sc] * 2 (14 sts).

At the end of the last rnd create the last loop with a needle - min 11:09 in the video tutorial. Cut the yarn leaving a 10 cm/3.9” tail & pull it through the st. Using a needle insert the yarn to the 2nd sc in the last rnd, and to the bl of the last sc in the last rnd. Put the triangles aside. We will join them later in one row.

Mediumtriangle (*2)

Repeat rnds 1-4 of the big triangle & create the last loop as in the big triangle case.

Small triangle (*2)

Repeat rnds 1-3 of the big triangle & create the last loop as in the big triangle case.

Joining the arm triangles

You will join the arm triangles in 2 sets. Each set will be joined in one row, as you joined the back triangles & tail. One set will be joined from the big triangle to the small one, and the other set, from the small triangle to the big one. You can see the joining directions in photo 18.

crochet dinosaur pattern by malkishuart 19

The first set of 3 triangles

Take a big triangle & fold it in half (the inc should be on the sides), create a slip knot & crochet 1 sc through each 2 sts of the last rnd –

1 & 14 | 2 & 13 | 3 & 12 | 4 & 11 | 5 & 10 | 6 & 9 | 7 & 8.

Now, move to medium triangle, fold it in half (the inc should be on the sides), and join it in the same method by crocheting 1 sc through each 2 sts of the last rnd –

1 & 12 | 2 & 11 | 3 & 10 | 4 & 9 | 5 & 8 | 6 & 7.

And now, move to the small triangle, fold it in half (the inc should be on the sides), and join it in the same method by crocheting 1 sc through each 2 sts of the last rnd –

1 & 10 | 2 & 9 | 3 & 8 | 4 & 7 | 5 & 6. The second set of 3 triangles

Repeat the same process as for the first set of 3 triangles, but join them in a different order – start with the small triangle, move to the medium one and end with the large triangle.

In this way the sts at each side of the arm will look the same – as “V” shape – photo 19.
